Try your hand at “making” in the Student Innovation Center’s unique Makerspaces and studios. Learn the equipment and basics to activate your imagination and start creating.
The Student Innovation Center currently provides supplies for the initial training on each piece of equipment. After training, it’s the user’s responsibility to provide their own supplies or materials. Users are not charged for machine time, training, or consultation.
Currently, machine use is on a first-come, first-served basis. User must have passed the required EHS online safety training and hands-on training with shop supervisor. Please note that you will need to provide your own protective equipment including safety glasses.
The Student Innovation Center’s mission is to provide collaborative space for users from all different backgrounds and disciplines. That’s why the Makerspace is open to all Iowa State students, staff, and faculty regardless of major, department, or prior experience.
Professors are welcome to bring their classes into the shop for group training, but classes cannot be held or conducted in the space without prior agreement. Please see Makerspace Class Usage page for more information.
You can work on personal projects, group projects, and class projects within our Makerspaces. You can create prototypes, but you cannot run a business out of the Makerspaces.
We offer consultations! Let us know in the form for the Makerspace your are interested, or feel free to stop by 2118 during office hours to speak with a member of our team who can help direct you to the Makerspace you need.
