Steve Johanns has founded companies involved in tackling the last mile challenges of climate change, poverty, and infrastructure development in rural developing markets of Sub-Saharan Africa and India. His current company Villedge Solutions Inc. (VSI), is focused on innovative Smart Village infrastructure development in East Africa with support of the U.S. Trade & Development Agency that includes solar-powered, satellite cloud-connected, smart eco-systems.
Prior to starting his own global companies, Steve developed and led Eaton’s Energy & Infrastructure business strategy for the central region of the U.S. Steve has led regional, national, and global development of renewable energy projects as well as energy efficiency, EV infrastructure, and microgrid projects and demonstrations. With over 25 years of experience in technology, energy, infrastructure, and innovation, Steve has developed and launched innovative technology companies with a focus on connecting the 1.2 billion people without access to electricity, internet, and banking systems and launched the world’s first solar-powered, internet-connected, solar home education and entertainment system for rural villagers.
Steve has advised and presented to financial institutions, Universities, as well as, government and utility officials in developing markets; has been an invited speaker to events sponsored by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, MasterCard Foundation, IEEE, and during WEF in Davos on the opportunity of ‘Hyper Innovation’ that exits in the last mile. A talk at Singapore Management University inspired case study on ‘Connecting the Invisible Woman in India’.
