What are Micro-Credentials?

Micro-credentials, issued as digital badges by Iowa State University, offer a way to show you’ve learned a specific skill. Each badge is embedded with metadata that verifies what you’ve learned and how you earned it. They can be shared on resumes, portfolios, email signatures, and LinkedIn to highlight what you know.

Why Earn Micro-Credentials?

Micro-credentials are valuable because they let you capture and share the skills you develop through hands-on learning that matter to you and your growth. At the same time, employers increasingly recognize micro-credentials as evidence of practical skills and initiative, giving you an edge when applying for jobs and internships. By earning them, you make your learning visible and meaningful, giving yourself recognition that goes beyond grades or transcripts.

After finishing the online training, you’ll need to complete a hands-on training session.
